Primary Grades tour the French Fort Cove
The K-4/5 and Grade 1/2 classes went for a tour of the French Fort Cove in Miramichi on May 22. The French Fort Cove has a long history in New Brunswick. Originally it was settled by Mi'kmaq natives. Archeological evidence places them in the region by 1,000 B.C. It was later settled by the French during the time of the expulsion of the Acadians. It also has connections to the lumbering and mining industries in New Brunswick. The French Fort Cove has been developed by the city of Miramichi as a recreational area for the people in the community. It has many walking trails and rest areas which are used during every season of the year.
The students enjoyed walking along the trails and examining the natural features in the area.
